A community program by Fan Diego, Specialty Electric, and Babies Love Fans

Every baby deserves clean air.

Not just the ones whose families can afford it.

I watched my wife go through five pregnancies. I finally had the business to do something about it. So we did.

— John Betancourt, Fan Diego · 44 years installing in Southern California

What this is

A Fan for Every Baby places free ceiling fans in the nurseries of expecting and new families in San Diego County and the Coachella Valley. Fan, hardware, install, time — no cost, no documentation, no interview.

There are hundreds of companies selling ceiling fans in this country. There is one that owns the showrooms, owns the import supply, and owns the licensed installation crews — and runs all three under one family. That's the reason this program exists. Anyone else trying to do this is writing a check. We're putting the fan up.

How it works

1

You buy a fan on this site.

A portion of every purchase funds the next install. Not a percentage to a foundation. Not a $1 line item on a receipt. A specific fan, going into a specific nursery, installed by a specific licensed crew, in a specific zip code in San Diego County or the Coachella Valley. Next month.

2

A family applies.

A short form. No proof of income. No documentation. Two minutes.

3

Specialty Electric installs it.

The same licensed crew (CSLB #1113915) that has been installing fans in Southern California homes for 44 years. They show up, they hang the fan, they take a photo, they leave. No upsell. No sales call.

4

The baby comes home to clean air.

Every night. From night one.

What you're actually buying

You're not making a donation. You're not getting a tote bag. You're buying a fan for your own family that runs on the same supply chain, the same installers, and the same 44-year record as the fan we'll put in another family's home next month. Your purchase and their install are the same transaction.

That's the participatory act. The give is built into the buy.

The science we built on

72%

Reduction in SIDS risk associated with fan use during infant sleep

Coleman-Phox, Odouli, Li. Use of a fan during sleep and the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. 2008;162(10):963–968. Study funded by NIH/NICHD; additional support from Kaiser Permanente.

100×

Indoor air pollution vs. outdoor on the average day

EPA. Most babies sleep through their first year in the room with the worst air in the house. A continuously circulating ceiling fan is the simplest intervention.

Who this is for, and who it isn't

Buyers.

Parents with the means to choose a fan for their nursery, and the impulse to spend that choice on more than one room. You're the program. There is no program without you.

Recipients.

Expecting and new families in San Diego County and the Coachella Valley who'd put up a fan if they could afford one — and don't need to prove anything to qualify. If a fan is out of reach right now, you apply. We come.

No questions. No documentation. No judgment. We don't ask for proof of income. We don't ask for ID. Asking for help during pregnancy or after a birth is hard enough — we're not going to make you prove anything else.
